Nancy Reagan, like every First Lady since Edith Wilson, was honorary President of the Girl Scouts of the USA. However, her pinning ceremony was delayed by the assassination attempt on her husband.

Newly invested as National Honorary President, First Lady Nancy Reagan receives a bouquet from Brownie Rhonda Johnson on May 15, 1981.

  1. I enjoy all these posts *so* much! They are so interesting & do so much to connect people to the rich history of Girl Scouting, especially for those of us in GSCNC. Thank you very much for all the work that you must put in on this!

  2. I’m curious what will happen when we (sooner or later) get a woman president. I would assume she would be the honorary president of the Girl Scouts?

Good question. I think she would still be honorary president of the Girl Scouts.
